Since disinfectants are used on inanimate surfaces, they have a higher concentration of chemical substances that inhibit the growth of bacteria and germs on surfaces. Since antiseptics are used on human skin tissues, they have a much lower concentration of chemical substances present in them. There are also a wide variety of antiseptics available in the market depending upon their chemical composition and particular use.

Some antiseptics may need to be diluted further with the use of water depending upon the need and usage. Most antiseptics and disinfectants are majorly used in hospital settings; however, commercial versions of these products are readily available in the market. The commercially available antiseptics can be used as a first-aid solution whereas the commercially available disinfectants can be used to clean floors, bathroom surfaces and windows.
